Robert Bennett, age 74, of Erwin, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Unicoi County and was the son of the late Coy James and Robbie Francis Guinn Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a mechanic and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved driving around Flag Pond and traveling.
Other than his parents, Mr. Bennett is preceded in death by brothers, Phil and Jim Bennett and a sister, Mary Lou McCurry.
Survivors include his children: Terry Meeks-Porter and husband Dr. Lawrence of Orlando, Fla., Robert “Bobby” James Bennett of Orlando, Fla., Julie Hornsby of St. Louis, Mo., Sandy Dees and husband Bob of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Jennifer Null-Jacobson and husband Bruce, Ashley Hornsby-Roth and husband Casey, Thomas Meeks and wife Laura Sanchez-Meeks, Megan Hornsby, Sarah Meeks, Natalie Hornsby; great-grandchildren: Bryce Null, Brody Null, Drew Jacobson, Mason Jacobson, and Kobe Jacobson; sisters: Kay Banner and husband Roger of Erwin, Gail Harris and husband Kenneth of Erwin and several very special nieces and nephews.
The family attended a committal service on Saturday, July 14, at 1 p.m., at Horton Family Cemetery in Unicoi.
