Richard Douglas Clark

Richard Douglas Clark, age 73, 826 Balsam Circle, Erwin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 25, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughter at the time of his passing. Doug was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Wesley Monroe Clark and Nellie Annette Booth Clark.

He was a United States Air Force Veteran having served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. Doug graduated from East Tennessee State University with a MBA degree. He retired after many years of service from Nuclear Fuel Services where he was employed as Contract Manager.

Doug was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, taught and served as a Faith Team Leader and drove the church van. He loved his church and church family. He was a member of Centennial Masonic Lodge #491 F&AM where he served as Past Master and Treasurer.

He was an exemplary athlete from his childhood Little League and throughout his adult life. Doug ran seven marathons, one of which was the Boston Marathon. He hiked the Appalachian Trail. Doug was an avid golfer and fisherman. He taught his grandchildren, Jack and Scarlett how to bait a hook while they enjoyed fishing at Watauga Lake and the Nolichucky River.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by four brothers: Herman, Ted, Tom and Leonard Clark; three sisters: Edith Poore, Margaret Dickey and Mary Mardis; four brothers-in-law: Albert Poore, Darrell Mardis, Frank Dickey and Bill Bowman; three sisters-in-law: Priscilla Clark, Jean Clark and Betty Clark.

Left behind to cherish Doug’s memory, is his loving wife of forty-six years, Gail Sparks Clark; one daughter, Julie Clark Huff and husband, Parks of Marietta, GA; two grandchildren: Jack Douglas Bowen and Scarlett Elizabeth Bowen; one sister, Helen Bowman of Erwin; sister-in-law, Barbara Clark, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Ninth Street Baptist Church. Pastor Rick Babin will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Centennial Lodge #491 F&AM will render Masonic Funeral Rites. Music will be provided by Becky Manfull, June Padgett and Kevin Clark. Committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. on Saturday.
