Reverend Roscoe Higgins

Reverend Roscoe Higgins, age 89, of Erwin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at Lakebridge Nursing Home in Johnson City. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Roscoe and Ethel Mae Honeycutt Higgins. Roscoe retired from CSX Transportation as a machinist at the former Erwin Machine Shops. He was a proud veteran of the U S Navy having served during World War II. Reverend Roscoe Higgins was a long time minister of the gospel, having served as Pastor of many churches in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina, including Low Gap Freewill Baptist Church, Vale Freewill Baptist Church, Huntdale Freewill Baptist Church, Laurelton Freewill Baptist Church and Embreeville Freewill Baptist Church, as well as Interim Pastor and guest speaker at many other churches in the area. He was a member of the Jacks Creek Freewill Baptist Association and the Carter County Praying Mountain Men. He was the last surviving charter member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Rev. Higgins is preceded in death by his wife, and the love of his life, Mary Louise Higgins in 2014 and a son, Darrell Wayne Higgins.

Great Grandchildren: Mariah Edwards, Haley Edwards, Noah Silvers, Nehemiah Edwards, Katie Gallagher, Gabe Gallagher, Kate Marie Haun and James Ryan Roark,
Great Great Grand Children: Madeline Hammer, Koraline Edwards, Logan Wilson Nathaniel Wilson and Desmond Roark,
Several Nieces and Nephews.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Reverend Roscoe Higgins in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 13, 2015 in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Simmons and Reverend B. F. McKinney, Jr. officiating. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00PM and continue until service time at Valley Funeral Home on Sunday. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at 10:45 AM on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Reverend Andy Patterson officiating. Those attending the committal service will meet at Mountain Home National Cemetery by 10:40 AM.
