Reverend Jimmy Phillip Metcalf

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Reverend Jimmy Phillip Metcalf, age 63, Erwin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 while he was surrounded by his loving family at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and son of the late Harvey Metcalf.

Jimmy retired as a Lab Technician from Nuclear Fuel Services after thirty-two years of service. He was also a pastor and evangelist for twenty-seven years. Jimmy was currently the pastor of Church of God at Temple Hill which he began with God’s guidance and help in 2007.

He had a great passion for mentoring the youth and leading them to the Lord. Jimmy would take his youth groups on trips to various locations such as Disney World and Washington D.C.

Jimmy was always looking for ways to give anyone a helping hand when he saw they were in need, or just facing a tough time in life. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, pastor and friend.

Jimmy enjoyed any activity which involved water and shared his love of water sports with his family. Jimmy liked camping, old cars, motorcycles and 4-Wheeler’s which he also enjoyed with his family. He was always ready to go on vacation and loved to travel everywhere!

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but the legacy and impact Jimmy’s life has had on others will last for generations.

He leaves behind to cherish his many wonderful memories, his wife of forty-four years, Geraldine Metcalf; his mother, Lois Metcalf, Flag Pond; three sons: J.P. Metcalf, Erwin, Jason Metcalf and wife, April, Unicoi, Scott Metcalf and wife, Amanda, Erwin; five grandchildren: Jordan Metcalf, Keri Metcalf, Kaleb Metcalf, Ian Metcalf and McKenzie Metcalf; two brothers: Arthur Metcalf and wife, Phyllis and Robert Metcalf and wife, Harriett, all of Flag Pond; Several nieces, nephews and a host of church family and friends also survive.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home and other times at his residence. A celebration of Jimmy’s life and legacy will be held following the visitation with Reverend Kevin Laws and Reverend Robert Crumpton officiating. Louie Shelton will deliver the eulogy. Sons and grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Ramsey, Louie Shelton, Lawrence Crowder, Danny Miller and Grady Ford. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 A.M. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or, as a tribute to Jimmy’s life and memory help someone you see in need.
