Rev. Robert Lincoln “R. L.” Edney

Rev. Robert Lincoln “R. L.” Edney, age 89, of 1010 East Erwin Road, Erwin, TN, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014, at the Erwin Health Care. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Robert A. and Nancy Vanover Edney. R. L. was a carpenter and retired from Gordon’s Furniture. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Seaman 1st Class. Mr. Edney was a former Chaplain of the American Legion and of the D. A. V. He was a minister and preached in several area churches. He attended Bible Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, R. L. was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Shelton Edney in August 2009, son Ronnie Lee Edney, sisters Myrtle White, Nola Hardin and Gladys Kloffer, brothers J. B., Luther, Harrison, Lish, Elmer, Conley and V.E. Edney.

R. L. has left behind to cherish his memory:

Step-children: Joan Tipton and husband, Leon of Erwin

Grandchildren: Dee Moore, Tammy Brown, Lt. Kelly Branham
Kristina Branham and Crystal Edney
Step-grandchildren: Chad Tipton, Brent Tipton. Kimberly Shelton and McKenzie Hyder
Twelve Great-Grandchildren
One Great-Great-Grandchild
Brother: Bobby E. Edney of North Carolina

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Erwin Health Care for their loving care during R.L.’s stay.

A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be held from 12:00 PM until service time on Thursday at Valley Funeral Home. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of R. L. Edney in a funeral service to be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, December 4, 2014 in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Jimmy Simerly, II and Pastor Randy Robbins will officiate. A graveside committal service will follow at the V.A. Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those who wish to attend the committal service will meet at Mountain Home National Cemetery by 2:20 PM on Thursday. Mr. Edney’s grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Crain, Tommy Branham, Ethan Branham, Pierce Branham, and Keelin Branham.
