Rev. John Robert Ambler (Uncle Bob)

Rev. John Robert Ambler (Uncle Bob), age 88, of Erwin, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN. He was a native of Niagara Falls, NY, moving to Erwin with his family in 1955. Rev. Ambler was a son of the late Fred and Leta Leary Ambler. Rev. Ambler served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a Minister of the Gospel for over fifty years serving twenty six of those years as Pastor of Fishery Community Church and later was honored with the title and capacity of Pastor Emeritus of that church. He ministered through Children’s Bible Ministries, Inc./Camp Ta-Pa-Win-Go of Watauga, TN for many years where he was affectionately known as “Uncle Bob” by students who had the privilege of attending his school “Chapel” programs where he taught Bible stories and Christian principles to generations of school children. He later served as a member of the board of directors for Children’s Bible Ministries, Inc. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Johanna B. Ambler.

The life of Rev. John Robert Ambler will be remembered and honored in a celebration of his life in a service to be at 7:30 PM, Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 200 Love Street, Erwin, TN 37650. Reverend Rusty Wishon will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be from 5:00 PM until service time on Tuesday at First Baptist Church. A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Fishery Community Church Cemetery, 501 Fishery Community Church Road, Erwin, TN 37650, with U.S. Flag presentation by TN National Guard. Those who will be attending will meet at 10:50 AM at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Uncle Bob and the family request memorial donations be made to Children’s Bible Ministries, Inc., Camp Ta-Pa-Win-Go, 111 CBM Camp Road, Watauga, TN 37694.
