Ralph H. Chandler, age 91, 106 Chandler Lane, Coffee Ridge community, Erwin, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 following a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Lark and Minnie Hester Tipton. Mr. Chandler was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Chandler was an inspector for Hoover Ball, retiring after 30 years service with the company. He honorably served his country as a WWII Army Veteran.
Other than his parents, Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his sister Vivian Miller and his first wife, Menta Willis Chandler.
Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife Pearlee Chandler; one daughter, Arizona Kay Ayers and husband Bill, of Flag Pond; four step daughters, Carolyn Bryant, and husband Douglas, and Kathy Tipton and husband Larry, all of Green Mountain, N.C., Sharon Stevenson and husband Paul, Pago Pago, American Samoa, Beverly Ball and husband, Butch, Burnsville, N.C.; one step-son, Teddy Barnett and wife Tammy, Erwin; one grandson, Aaron Ayers and wife Jennifer, Flag Pond; one granddaughter, Billie Brackins, Erwin; one great grandson, Aaden Ayers; six step grandsons; seven step granddaughters; 13 step great grandsons; three step great granddaughters, and one nephew.
Funeral services for Mr. Chandler were held March 10 from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Harold Lewis officiated. Family and friends served as pallbearers.
The committal service was held Friday, March 11, in Evergreen Cemetery. The Tennessee Honor Guard conveyed military honors.
