Phyllis “Johnnie” Stultz, age 88, Erwin, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Cornerstone Village, Johnson City following a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Rufus and Hettie Phillips Sam s. Mrs. Stultz retired from the Unicoi County School System where she taught in several different schools for many years. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former Sunday School Teacher. Other than
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Stultz on April 2, 2005; four sisters, Beulah Sams, Hazel Pate, June Cody and Willie Kate “Bill” Congdon; a niece, Judy Pate Bradford and a nephew, Larry Michael Cody.
Mrs. Stultz leaves behind to cherish her memories; a nephew, Doug Congdon and wife, Teresa of Johnson City, two nieces, Brenda Cody Canipe and husband, Charles of Spruce Pine, NC, Sara Congdon Hollowell and husband, David of Memphis, several great nephews and nieces also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Calvary Baptist Church from 1:00 pm Friday, October 27, 2017, until the hour of service. Pastor David Crutchfield will officiate at the 3:00 pmfuneral service. Music will be provided by Phyllis Bennett, Gary Amos and Larry Pate. Deacons of the church will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends that are not able to attend the funeral service but would like to visit with the family may do so from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Calvary Life Center.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in memory of “Johnnie” to the Calvary Missions offering or the building fund at Calvary Baptist Church, 540 Adams Street, Erwin.
