Phillip Hubert Mathes, 66, of Madison passed away on January 10, 2017 at Novant Health UVA Hospital in Haymarket, Va. He was born on June 21, 1950 in Erwin, Tn. to the late Albert Phillip Mathes. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Michael Mathes.
He was a licensed heating and cooling engineer for Lerner Corporation and Charles E. Smith in the Washington DC and northern Virginia area. He was a U.S. Vietnam Navy Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Kay Mathes of Madison; his mother, Juanita Banner Mathes of Erwin, Tn.; one daughter, Rebecca Ellen Mathes; four sons, Bryan Phillip Mathes of Madison, Wayne Michael Mathes of Honolulu, Hi, Daniel Lee Mathes of Madison, and Mark Albert Mathes of Los Angelos, Ca.; and one sister, Carol June Rice of Erwin, Tn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 13, 2017 at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison with interment in the Culpeper National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
