Pearlie Mae Arrowood, age 80, of Erwin, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at the Center on Aging and Health. She was a native of Shelby, N.C., and a daughter of the late George and Leah Ashley Oaks.
She enjoyed sewing, making baby quilts, sitting on the porch watching birds and listening to gospel music. Many years ago, Mrs. Arrowood sang in a gospel trio. She attended Erwin Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons: Johnny and Ronald Arrowood.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Bert Arrowood; son: Alvin Dewey Arrowood and his wife Prudence, of Littleton, Colo.; daughters: Helen Fair and her husband Randy, of Lenoir City, Linda King and her husband Dale, of Wamego, Kan., Donna Ray and her husband Steve, of Chuckey; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother: Virgil Oaks of Shelby, N.C.; several nieces and nephews
A funeral service for Mrs. Arrowood will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, at the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Johnson will officiate. Music selections will be under the direction of Chad Jones.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow immediately at the Mountain Home Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Fair, Chad Jones, Isreal Jones, Marcus King, James Arrowood and Joe Ray.
