Orlanda Wycliffe Jones, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City. Mr. Jones was born in Erwin, on July 12, 1923, a son of the late Hiram and Carrie Miller Jones.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in both the European and Pacific Theaters of World War II. After returning from military service, he married the love of his life, Lena Phillips, in 1946.
Mr. Jones worked for the Clinchfield/CSX Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 1983 as superintendent. He served as choir director for 50 years at Trinity Freewill Baptist Church and later for 7 years at Maranatha Tabernacle.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters: Eva Hughes and Nora Oaks; brothers: Clarence, H. A. and Charlie Jones; and son: Freddie Jones.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons: Terry Jones and wife, Elna, of Jonesborough, Tracy Jones and wife, Jayne, of Orange Park, Fla.; brothers: David and John Jones, both of Erwin; sisters: Betty Lou Atkins and Mary Elizabeth Hughes, both of Erwin and Melba Beatrice Sneed of Adrian, Mich.; grandchildren: Terry William Jones, Jessica Walters, Christie Johnson, Matthew Jones, Beth McKinney and Quentin Jones and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Orlanda Wycliffe Jones was held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. Kyle Tipton officiated and vocal selections were provided by Larry Dugger.
A committal service was held on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m., in the Mausoleum Chapel of Evergreen Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers were Tracy Jones, Terry Jones, Terry W. Jones, Terry W. Jones, Jr, Matthew Jones, Quentin Jones, Michael Phillips, Jonathan Jones and Noah Jones. Honorary Pallbearers were David Jones, John Jones and Dr. Chad Johnson.

Valley Funeral Home was in charge.
