Nola Glenna Deaton Horton

Nola Glenna Deaton Horton, died Wednesday morning, July 24, 2013, at the age of 95. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and a recent resident at the Long Term Care of the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Fitzhugh R. and Canzadia Edwards Deaton.

She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church and former member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Nola was a first class gardener whose flowers were always envied. She loved birds and kept them always fed until she left this life. She enjoyed the small things of this world.

Nola endeared herself to all who came in contact with her as a kind and gentle spirit with a deep and abiding faith. This was shown by the dedicated and loving care she was given by the caregivers at the Long Term Care as well as lab, respiratory personnel and her beloved Drs. Trizl and J. W. Colinger . Her children are eternally grateful.

Other than parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joseph H. Horton, who died in 2003 and daughter, Leisa Faye Horton who died in 1970. She was also preceded in death by sisters Ila Foster and Virginia Deaton.

She has six surviving children: Ken Horton, Erwin, Katherine Horton Jones of Knoxville, TN., JoAnne Horton Hardy Erwin TN., Bill Horton of Chattanooga TN, Jeri Horton Morrill of Coral Springs FL., and Kevin Horton of Erwin TN. She is also survived by son-in-law Harold Jones of Knoxville TN; daughters-in-law Gina Casteel Horton, Erwin, and Janet Boehm Horton of Chattanooga, TN; fifteen grandchildren: Chad, Lori, Connie, Nicole, Joey, Matt, Kenny, Jennifer, Maggie, Claire, Laura, Leisa, Erin, Katie and Heather; and twenty great-grandchildren and one to be born in August.
Nola has six surviving siblings: Marjorie Hall, Inez Chandler, Charlotte McCurry, Joyce Norris, Gene Deaton and Carroll Deaton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Nola's Life will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend David Crutchfield and Reverend Todd McLaughlin will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Matt Chatman, Chad Jones, Cody Trigg, Daniel Horton, Kenny Chatman, Steven Caldwell, Michael Higgins and Joey Horton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday.

The committal service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery.
Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
