Nathan “Nate” Nelson Ray, 51, of Farragut, Tenn., died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Mercy Residential Hospice in Knoxville.
He was born September 18, 1959 in Erwin, to Lawrence V. Nelson and Mary V. Nelson. Mr. Nelson grew up in Indiana, graduated from Zionsville High School and attended Indiana University and Purdue University in Indianapolis.
He was employed by Temple-Inland for 25 years with promotional relocations to Seymour and Elizabethton, with a final promotional move to Farragut. He was also a sales executive for Inland Container, International Paper and Wurzburg,
Mr. Nelson enjoyed boating, motocross sports and flying model airplanes. Even after moving to Tennessee, he was still a loyal fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary V. Nelson.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Karen Ottinger Nelson; son, Tony; daughter, Krista; father, Lawrence V. Nelson of Erwin; siblings, George “Joyce” Nelson of Defiance, Ohio, Cynthia Nelson Kelly of Erwin, and William “Kim” Nelson of Monrovia, Ind.; a nephew, two nieces and a great niece.
The family received friends from 2 to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel, Knoxville. Chaplain Thomas J. Rayford officiated.
