Nancy Katherine (Banner) Collins, 77, passed away November 23, 2019 at her residence in Johnson City, TN.
Kathy was born in Erwin, TN in 1942 and was raised on Martin’s Creek. She met Orlin Collins in 1957 at a revival at Lily Dale Christian Church; they married a year later. When she was 23, they took in and raised her brother Gail’s oldest four children. Upon Orlin’s retirement in 2004 they returned home to East Tennessee where they lived on Boone Lake, entertaining scores of friends and family with rides on the pontoon boat and jet ski, and cookouts for birthdays, July 4th, or for no reason at all.
Her passion was her family, and she loved nothing more than visiting and telling stories. In the course of her life she was an Apple mom, homeroom mom, soccer mom, art volunteer, tutor, lunch lady, office administrator, AmeriCorps volunteer, waitress, seamstress, among many other roles. She proudly called herself a homemaker.
She was baptized in the Lily Dale Christian Church (now Church of Christ) as a young woman, and visited whenever she could. At the time of her death she was a member of Hales Chapel Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her adopted children Louis Banner, Louise Banner Greiser, and Donald Banner; her brothers Ralph Jr “Sonny”, Gail, Melvin, and Richard Banner; her sisters Norma Jean Hensley, Marie Edwards, and Motelle Brotherton.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Orlin Leon Collins; her daughter Charlotte Banner Haggerty and husband Edwin “Buddy”; her son Charles Keith Collins and husband Domonic Potorti; her daughter Kristy Rae-Collins Crooks and husband James; grandchildren Jason, Melissa, Jennifer, Bryan, Valerie, Summer, Joseph, and Charles; eight great grandchildren; her sister Ethel Banner Miller, and a multitude of nieces and nephews and their children.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the Lily Dale Church of Christ. Minister Randle Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
