Mr. Deward Gene Bailey

Mr. Deward Gene Bailey, age 82, 1623 Jackson Love Highway, Erwin passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Bailey was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Jeff and Dora Simmons Bailey. He had been employed by the Unicoi County Highway Department as a mechanic and retired from the Unicoi County Board of Education where he was maintenance supervisor. Mr. Bailey had been employed by Unicoi County for a total of thirty-nine years. He attended Erwin Church of Brethren. Mr. Bailey was Past Master of Centennial Lodge #491, Erwin, member of Jericho Shrine Temple, Unicoi County Shrine Club, Eastern Star Chapter #276, R.D. Keller Chapter #214, Royal Arch Masons and B. E. Wooten Council #119. He enjoyed volunteering to raise funds for the Shriners Hospital. Mr. Bailey loved gardening and sharing his fresh vegetables with family and friends. He loved to help people. Mr. Bailey read and studied the Bible daily. He enjoyed spending time with family especially his grandchildren, Josh and Brianna.

Mr. Bailey leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of fifty-three years, Faye A. Bailey; one son, Jeff Bailey and wife, Kathy, Franklin, TN; two sisters: Carolyn Byers and husband, John, Hanover, PA; Kathryn McDonald of Johnson City; two grandchildren: Josh and Brianna Bailey, Franklin, TN; a niece and nephew also survive.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence. Reverend Randy Griffith will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Masonic Rites will be rendered by the Centennial Lodge with Carlyle Love presiding and David Burgner as Chaplain. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be Harold Bailey, Jake Campbell, Will Mullins, Darrell Bailey, David Bailey and Terry Haynes. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Tipton, J. W. Tipton, Bob Cooper, Gene Ramsey, O'Dell Sawyer and Chuck Bailey. Entombment service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday from the Evergreen Mausoleum with Reverend Kevin Laws officiating. Those wishing to attend the entombment service are asked to meet at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home by 10:30 A. M. to go in procession to the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to t he Centennial Lodge #491 Building Fund, Attention: Noel Muhn, 354 Boyd Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
