Mildred McIntosh Hayes, age 83, Jonesborough, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Hayes was born in Flag Pond and moved to Washington County in 1950. She was a daughter of the late Luther Cullis & Eunice Proffitt McIntosh. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Frank Hayes in 1999, one brother, Walter McIntosh and one sister, Grace McIntosh Hensley.
She was one of the oldest members of Jonesborough Second Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hayes enjoyed visits with her grandchildren, sewing, canning, reading, but most of all, visiting with her friends. Among those was a special niece, Mildred “Maebell” Byrd and special friends, Sharon and Karen Cole.
She retired from Steinway Sewing Factory in 1965.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Harold and Sheila Hayes, Johnson City; two grandchildren: Malachi Hayes and Selena Hayes, both of the home; several nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters-in-law and a very special sister-in-law: Lois Whitaker.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Hilton officiating.
Interment services were conducted at 10:45 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4, at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harold Byrd, Harold Lee Byrd, Malachi Hayes, L.D. Simmons, Andrew Garst and Alan Hayes.
