Milburn Kirkpatrick Jr.

Milburn Kirkpatrick Jr., Erwin, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Washington County and a son of the late Milburn Sr. and Pearl Saylor Kirkpatrick. He was a meat cutter by trade and retired from Valleydale Packers of Bristol, and also worked at Food Lion. ”Mel” as he was known by many, enjoyed the outdoors and after retiring, he started woodworking as a hobby which he loved very much. Milburn and his partner, Barbara both loved County and Western dancing. In addition to his parents, Milburn is preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant nephew.

Niece: Natalie Pye of Johnson City
Nephews: Steve Parker and wife Pam of Kingsport
Alec Hale and wife Teresa of Manny Louisiana
He is also survived by Barbara’s daughters: Kim Lloyd and husband Pete of Erwin
Melody Pickering and husband John of Gardner KS
Sons: Tim Nelson and wife Janet of Johnson City
Tom Nelson and partner Denise Harris of Bristol
And Mel is also survived by his loyal and loving furry baby, Corky

A memorial service will be held in his honor at 8:00 PM, Monday, October 19, 2015, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Pete Lloyd and Reverend Darren Shelton will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 6:00 PM on Monday and continue until the memorial service.
