Michael L. “Cotton” Tipton, 57, of Erwin, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born in Unicoi County and was a son of the late Page and Bessie Mullins Tipton. Mr. Tipton was employed with Willard Miller Tree Service before he became disabled.
He had attended Embreeville Cove Missionary Baptist Church. He loved watching old John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies. He enjoyed hanging out with his brother-in-law and being on the farm. Mr. Tipton was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed nature, as well as being an animal lover. He also loved working on old cars.
Mr. Tipton will be missed and treasured deeply by his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Tipton, in 2010.
Survivors include a brother: Denton Tipton, Erwin; two sisters: Nora King, and husband Larry, Unicoi; Brenda Tipton Casey, and husband Ronnie “Red,” Erwin; nephews: Jonathan Tipton, San Diego, Calif., Christopher Tipton, Erwin, Patrick Tipton, Erwin; niece: Michelle Lynn Tipton, Johnson City; special friend: Nola Rich, Erwin; and a special cat named Pooks.
The family will attend a private memorial graveside service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Unicoi County Animal Shelter, 185 North Industrial Drive, Erwin, TN 37650.
