Michael “Mike” Light, age 66, 140 Kerns St., Erwin, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Bristol Regional Medical Center Select Specialty Unit. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Clarence and Etta Ambrose Light.
Mr. Light served in the U.S. Air Force as a Sgt. during the Vietnam War. He worked for Nuclear Fuel Services until his retirement, after 23 years of service.
He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed coaching and working with the Erwin Little League for 13 years. Mr. Light was a member of the Erwin Elks Club and the Johnson City Moose Lodge. He attended Southside Freewill Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Jean Light, Betty Ann Light Cloutier and brothers, Maynard Light, James Light, Willard Light, and Jerry Light.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years: Brenda Callahan Light of Erwin; sons: David Light of Erwin, Jason Light and wife, Eleanor Banks Light, of Nashville; brothers: Merle Light of Erwin, Vernon Light of Johnson City; granddaughter: Annabelle Grace Light and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 8 p.m., in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. Kevin Laws officiated.
A committal service was held on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m., in the Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel.
Active pallbearers were J.B. Cooper, Ronald “Boo” Ambrose, Billy Johnson, Tommy Brotherton, Roger Hayes, and Jody Cox. Named as honorary pallbearers were golf friends of the Erwin Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations please be made to Cancer Research or the Unicoi County Humane Society, P.O. Box 684, Erwin, TN 37650.
