Mary E. Withers, 90, of Oregon, Ill., died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, in KSB Hospital, Dixon, Ore. She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Erwin to the late Charles and Annabelle Kyker McInturff.
She married Roy P. Withers Dec. 7, 1946. He died Dec. 24, 1974.
Mrs. Withers served as a WAC during World War II. She moved to Oregon, Ill., in 1945 and was a longtime employee of the Oregon Sewing Factory. She also worked at Maxwell Graphics and was a waitress for many years in area restaurants.
She was a lifetime auxiliary member of the VFW, lifetime member of the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge 1551 and lifetime member of the American Legion. She also enjoyed playing bingo and was very close to her canine companion Sable.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a longtime friend: Donald Messer; son: Victor “Toney” Withers; brothers: John A. McInturff, Charlie “Chalkeye” McInturff, Joe T. McInturff, Jack P. McInturff, and J.R. McInturff; and sisters: Buehlah M. Calhoun and Virginia C. McDermott.
Survivors include a daughter: Dorothy “Dot” Kershaw and fiancé Greg Diehl of Oregon, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters: Amner Toney, Susie Higgins and Patsy Lewis Hampton, all of Erwin, and Julia Edwards of LaQuinta, Calif.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, Ill. The Rev. Michael Hoffman of Oregon Church of God will officiate. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oregon, Ill.
