Mary E. Fletcher Williams

Mary E. Fletcher Williams, age 93, of Erwin, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2021, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Mary was a native of Panama, Rep de Panama and came to the United States in 1945. She became a US citizen in 1959 and obtained her GED in 1983. Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Paul and Juana Arancibia Fletcher. In 1984 she began doing volunteer work for the migrant children at Unicoi Elementary School and later was hired for the position. After her retirement, she began substitute teaching for all of the Unicoi County Schools and after 24 years, she retired from the school system. After retirement, she was called on many times to be an interpreter for the Sheriff’s Department, Unicoi County Memorial Hospital, Unicoi County Courts, Unicoi County School System and Unicoi County Health Department.

Mrs. Williams enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, crocheting and her flower gardening. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Millard B. Williams in 2006, who was a longtime resident and native of Unicoi County; one sister, Emma, and one brother, Dr. Pablo E. Fletcher, both of Panama, Rep de Panama.

Walter W. Williams, of Johnson City;
Daughter: Ethel J. Williams, of Elizabethton;
Sister: Ivy R. Fletcher Arancibia, of Mexico City, Mexico;
Sister-in-law: Lilia V. Fletcher, of Panama, Rep de Panama;
Granddaughter: Julie Maria Williams and husband, John Gabel;
Great-grandson: Jonah Williams-Gabel;
Several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and staff at Life Care Center of Elizabethton for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
