Mary Alice Smith Campbell, 74, of 529 Lance Lane, Unicoi, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at the home of her daughter. She was born November 3, 1936 in the Limestone Cove community of Unicoi County.
Mrs. Campbell was the daughter of the late Charlie Auther and Edline Davis Smith.
She retired in 1996 from Jones and Church Farms after 15 years of service. Before that, she was an employee of Levi Strauss for many years. Mrs. Campbell was a member of Simerly Creek Believer's Fellowship Church. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
Other than parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Campbell Jr. in 1986; two sons: Gary Lynn Campbell and Allen Dean Campbell; one granddaughter: April Dawn Lance Whitson; three brothers: John “Clinton” Smith, Bill Smith, and Charles “Junior” Smith; two sisters: Avanell Byrd and Ruby Gregg; niece: Opal Smith Sneed.
Survivors include three sons: Dale Campbell and fiancee, Lori Street, Larry Campbell, Richard Campbell and his wife Debbie; one daughter: Linda Lance and her husband Randy, all of Limestone Cove Community; four granchildren: Keith Campbell, Justin Campbell and his wife, Rachel, Brandon Campbell, Adam Campbell and his wife Angel; four sisters: Earnestine Carver, of Hampton, Joyce Sneed, of Unicoi County, Yvonne Miller, of Hampton, Shirley Miller and her husband Norman of Unicoi County; one brother: Carrol Smith, of Unicoi County; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to recognize the following people that were very special to Mary: Rickey Smith, Wynona Carver, Susie Stevens, Randall Whitson, and by her sisters-in-law who preceded her in death, Betty Bea Roberts and Genevieve Stevens.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m., Friday, July 22, in the chapel of Unicoi Funeral Home with the Rev. Morris Burkett, the Rev. Dallas Gregg, and the Rev. Jim Holtsclaw officiating.
Special music was provided by Barbara and Robert Guinn, and by Janet Morrow, and her daughters, Jennifer and Laura.
Active pallbearers were Brandon Campbell, Rocky Cochran, Steven Cochran, Bobby Jack Davis, Doug Hyder, and Doug Gouge. Honorary pallbearers were Joey Hill, Joseph “Richard” Smith, Norman Miller, Rickey Smith, and Jimmy Davis.
The committal service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23, at the Smith Family Cemetery in Limestone Cove with the Rev. Elmer Randy Gobble officiating.
Unicoi Funeral Home was in charge.
