Mary “Pooky” Brookshire, 91, raised in Erwin, and formerly a resident of Huntsville, Ala., died at home on Tuesday, June 7, 2011.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Huntsville, Ala. and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church while living in Charleston, W. Va. for the past 4 years.
Mrs. Brookshire was a teacher and homemaker. She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University, receiving a degree in education.
She loved golf and tennis, and was an all-around athlete and an avid Univervisty of Tennessee sports fan. She had an infectious laugh and shared it with everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leo Brookshire, and twin sister, Margaret Neely.
Survivors include her son: Michael L. Brookshire and his wife, Lynn; two granddaughters: Kristi Pierce and Nikki Cory; two great granddaughters: Chloe Cory and Izzy Cory; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends of all ages.
Graveside service was held Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Mueller officiating at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville.
Laughlin Funeral Home was in charge.
