Marjorie Emma “Cottie” Williams

Marjorie Emma “Cottie” Williams, age 83, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at her home. Born on January 28, 1930 in Unicoi County she was a daughter of the late Robert and Anna Myrtle Adkins Williams. She graduated from Unicoi County High School and East Tennessee State Teacher’s College. Ms. Williams retired from the Unicoi County School System after 42 years service. She taught first grade at Martin Chapel Elementary School until it’s closing when she moved to Love Chapel Elementary School where she continued to teach first grade. She also spent 38 years as an elementary basketball coach. Ms. Williams was a member of First Christian Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, helped with the youth and sang in the choir. Miss Williams was an avid U T Girls Basketball and Atlanta Braves fan. She loved watching a good western.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers Arnold, Alvand, Horace and Marvin Williams and sisters Irene Adkins, Marie Swofford, Anna Darlene Williams and Mary Virginia Williams and a niece Millicent Brien.

She is survived by:
Sister: Eloise Hughes and her husband Buster of Erwin,
Nieces and nephews: David Williams, Edward Williams, Linda Ollis, Rebecca Stevens, Richard Williams, Timothy Williams, Dennis Hughes, Denise Hughes Ray and Patti Swofford Boatright;
Several great nieces and great nephews;
And her beloved cats Georgette, Fluffy and Snow Shoes.

The life of Marjorie Williams will be remembered and honored in a funeral service at 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 1, 2013, at First Christian Church, 307 S. Main Ave. Erwin, with Dr. Todd Edmonson officiating. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be held at First Christian Church from 11:00 AM until service time on Thursday and at other times at the homes of Eloise Hughes, 331 S. Main Ave. and Linda Ollis, 105 Laurel Rd.
