Mae McKinney

Mae McKinney, age 91, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. She was a native of Erwin and the last living child of Eugene F. and Finetta Harris Emmert. Mae was a devoted mother, dedicated Christian and a faithful member of Central Baptist Church. The poet Emerson wrote: “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Mae was most certainly an honorable, kind, compassionate woman who lived her life well and made a difference, but she was also happy with her life and brought happiness to many others as well. In addition to her parents, Mae is proceeded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lyda McKinney and son, Mitchell McKinney.

Mae has left behind to cherish her memories:
Daughter: Joyce Schroding of Erwin
Son: Edward McKinney and his wife Penny of Knoxville
Grandchildren: Chad, Shaun, Jason, Jared and Blake McKinney, Brittany Retterer and
Wesley McKinney
Great-Grandchildren: Jade, Emma Grace, Ava, Graham, Arilynn, and L.J. (Lyda James)

The family would like to express a sincere and special thank you to the Long Term Care nurses, staff and all who cared for Mae during her time there.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Mae McKinney in a funeral service to be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 4, 2015, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home.
