Mabel Ann Byrd Laughrun, age 92, formerly of Jonesborough, departed this earth on May 9, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She resided at Gov ernor’s Bend Retirement Home and Assisted Living Facility in Erwin since 2013. Mabel was born April 1, 1924, in Yancey County, NC and was a daughter of the late Robert and Harriett McCourry Byrd. She was a former employee of Southern Pottery and was a resident of Erwin for over thirty-five years. Mabel loved her flower garden and was an avid cross-stitcher with flowers and animals on almost all of her clothing. She attended Princeton Presbyterian Church.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Laughrun in 2000; one daughter, Brenda Sue Laughrun Tipton in 2014; one brother, Park Byrd; three sisters: Edna Goforth, Shirley Frock and Alberta “Betty” Hoffman.
Mabel leaves behind to cherish her memories one grandson, Andrew Tipton and wife, Mary of Greenfield, CA; son-in-law, Russell Tipton of Jonesborough; one brother, Walter Byrd and wife, Evelyn of Green Mountain, NC; one sister, Cora Blanton of Wilmington, NC. Nieces and nephews: Kim, Teresa, Steve and Tim Peterson.
There will be a private family viewing. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 10:45 A.M. on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Reverend David Tydings will officiate.
The family would like to thank the wonderful professional staff at Governor’s Bend for the care provided. We would also like to thank Delbert and Geri White and David and Sarah Tydings for the love and kindness they showed to Mabel.
