Lydia Katherine Treadway, 81, died Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Johnson City Medical Center Johnson City. Mrs. Treadway was born February 11, 1935, the daughter of Helen Waldrop Watts of Johnson City and the late Dwight Shelton. A native of Erwin, Katherine was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker and child of God. Her Christian spirit was strong, her love for her family was solid and her love of life will be remembered always. Most noteworthy was the love she demonstrated in the care of her mother, who will celebrate her 100th birthday in July.

Katherine and Horace were pillars of Shallow Ford Baptist Church for decades, serving in the choir and in various roles within the church. She is now with the love of her life, Horace Treadway, who passed away in 2008. The two were married for 55 years.

Her father, Dwight Shelton, in 1977 and stepfather, Lawrence Watts, also preceded her in death in 1999. Survivors include: one daughter, Donna Marie Lingerfelt, and her husband Henry of Erwin; one son, Tony Treadway and his wife Teresa of Johnson City and grandson Wesley Higgins of Knoxville; mother, Helen Watts, and brother, Robert Eugene Shelton, and his wife Judy of Johnson City and a Step Sister, Margaret Elliott of Sebring, FL. Grandchildren include: Kristen Leanne Treadway and great grandson Tybree Faw of Johnson City; grandson Matthew Lingerfelt of the home and granddaughter Sarah Lingerfelt of Watauga. Two nephews, one great niece and several great nephews and cousins also will grieve her departure as well as her best friend, Betty Pate.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and CNAs of Johnson City Medical Center and NHC Healthcare in Johnson City who provided comfort during her final days. A celebration of Katherine’s life will be held at 1:00PM Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Tyson and Rev. Tim Shelton officiating. Vocal selections will be provided by Teresa Treadway. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 11:00AM and continue until service time at Valley funeral Home. A graveside committal service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral service. Pallbearers will be notified. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made in her name to the Resident’s Activity Fund of NHC Healthcare, 3209 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601.
