Luella Quillen Higgins, 67, 111 East St., Erwin, died, Wednesday, March 30, 2011 following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Higgins was born in Washington County but had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. She was a daughter of the late Winnie Gillenwater Quillen.
She retired in 1989 from Texas Instruments after seventeen years of service. She had previously worked at Industrial Garment and Superior Hone. Mrs. Higgins was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church.
She was concerned about taking care of all of God’s stray creatures. Mrs. Higgins was a loving and devoted wife and mother and enjoyed her family immensely.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Tesnear, in 2002.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, James K. Higgins; one daughter, Sherri Garland and husband Alan; two sons: Randy Higgins and Darren Higgins and wife Darlene, all of Erwin; one grandson: Zachary Garland; one granddaughter: Shelby Higgins; one brother: Jimmy Quillen and wife Jeanette, Erwin; and one sister: Finetta Quillen, Erwin; one brother-in-law: Glynn Higgins, and wife Barbara, Telford; two sisters-in-law: Fredna Williams, Erwin, and Mary Lou Ricker and husband James, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Luella Higgins was held Friday, April 1, at 7 p.m. from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev.Kevin Laws, the Rev. Gordon Lewis, the Rev. Charlie Trivette, and the Rev. Billy Bevan officiated. Special music was provided by The Southside Trio.
Active pallbearers chosen by the family were Robert Hensley, Marlin Hensley, Jamie Miller, Patrick Bennett, Joe Quillen and Zachary Garland.
Interment was Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery.
Robert Ledford Funeral Home was in charge.
