Louise Gillis Treadway

Louise Gillis Treadway, age 91, 100 Treadway Lane, Flag Pond, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2016. She passed away at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Treadway was born December 25, 1924 in Rocky Fork and lived most of her life in the Rocky Fork community. She was a daughter of the late William Lattie and Vivian Barnes Gillis.
Mrs. Treadway was a devout Presbyterian and a lifelong member of the Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church where she taught the Nursery Sunday School Class for many years. She was one of the last surviving members educated by the Rocky Fork mission headed by Jennie Moore. Mrs. Treadway was later educated at the Dorland Bell Academy in Hot Springs, NC. Her unwavering faith in her Lord led every day of her life.

She was one of the four original employees of Giles Morrill when he opened Morrill Electric, Inc., Rocky Fork in 1962, and continued working there until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. Treadway was previously employed by Industrial Garment. She exhibited her passion for life each day and enjoyed many interest. Mrs. Treadway loved watching all sports. She was an avid Unicoi County Blue Devil and Tennessee Volunteers fan. Mrs. Treadway spent most of her life encouraging and watching her children and grandchildren compete for both of her favorite teams. Her greatest passion was for her beloved husband of sixty-five years, Quillen Treadway and her family. Mrs. Treadway enjoyed every day spent with her children and grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, John Quillen Treadway; five brothers: William Lattie Gillis, Jr., Jim Gillis and three infant brothers; two sisters: Dorothy Gillis Higgins and Mildred Gillis Johnson.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, three sons: John Treadway and wife, Linda of Erwin, Gerald Treadway and wife, Sammy of Social Circle, GA, Doug Treadway and wife, Patty of Unicoi; two daughters: Willa Dean Osborne and husband, George, Phyllis Bennett and husband, Tommy all of Erwin; one brother, Lynn Gillis of Roseville, CA; ten grandchildren: Travis Shelton and wife, Jennifer, Ed Shelton and wife, Karen, Steve Treadway, Aaron Bennett and wife, Terri, Andy Bennett and fiance, Jennifer Clouse, Trent Treadway, Mikayla Treadway, Brian Osborne, Eric Osborne and Kim Burton; ten great grandchildren: Austin Shelton, Brianna Shelton, Abbi Snyder, Jordan Treadway, Drew Treadway, Christin Ninkovich, Kiley Bennett, Faith Bennett, Broox Bennett and Blake Bennett; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend George Rolling and Reverend David Crutchfield will officiate at the 1:00 P.M. funeral service on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rocky Fork Community. Music will be provided by Saundra Ray, Aaron Bennett and Colleen Trenwith. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
