Lloyd Phillips, age 81, Seneca, S.C., formerly of Erwin, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, in Seneca.
He was born in Burnsville, N.C., to the late Roscoe and Mima Phillips. Mr. Phillips moved to Erwin as a child, where he lived until his enlistment into the U.S. Navy. He was a proud veteran having retired in 1976 after 25 years of devoted service.
Mr. Phillips was a member of the Forest Point Baptist Church in North Carolina.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Jack Phillips and Guy Phillips.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Doris Higgins Phillips; one son: Douglas Phillips and wife, Wendy, Mooresville, N.C.; two daughters: Teresa Smith and husband, Andy, Seneca, S.C., Christina Bryan and husband, Gregg, Mooresville, N.C.; one very special granddaughter: Elexa Phillips, Mooresville, N.C.; one brother: Ed Phillips and wife, Lynda, Erwin; four sisters: Josie Roberts, Alma Fender, Elva Harris, all of Erwin, and Athleen Franklin, Gray and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mr. Phillips will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the Evergreen Mausoleum Chapel. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Boone Dam VFW Post #4933. Special music will be provided by his nephew, Ron Fender.
Active pallbearers will be Gregg Bryan, Andy Smith, Duane Phillips, Andrew Phillips, Keith Franklin, and Tony Fender.
There will be no formal visitation.
