Leona Edwards Jackson, age 84, Asbury Place, Maryville, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Jackson was a lifelong resident of Erwin, moving to Maryville in 2009 to be close to her loving son. She was a daughter of the late Richard G. and Lillian Greenlee Edwards.
Mrs. Jackson retired in 1993 from the Unicoi County school system where she had served as library clerk at Love Chapel School for over 30 years.
She was a very active lady who would go bowling twice a week, often went line dancing with friends, was a member of the hiking club, and loved to play the piano. Mrs. Jackson was a longtime faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church and loved her church family. Her grandchildren were her supreme enjoyment.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Porter Jackson, who passed away in 1988.
Survivors include her son: Tom Jackson and his wife Becky, Maryville; one grandson: Spencer Jackson, Chattanooga; one granddaughter: Jennifer Jackson, Charleston, S.C.; one brother: Phillip Edwards, Georgia; five sisters: Fanny Garland, Erwin, Vivian Brock, Hendersonville, Tenn., Evelyn Bates, Johnson City, Carmel Freeman and her husband, Bud, Jonesborough, Wanda Padgett and her husband Glenn, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Graveside service for Mrs. Jackson was held at noon Monday, Nov. 12, in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Garland James officiated.
Active pallbearers were Jack Metcalf, Daniel White, Carl Booth, Harold Luttrell, T. R. Parker and Raymond Edwards.
