Leona “Ony” Garland, 90, 120 Buckeye Road, Unicoi, died Monday, June 20, 2011, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a native of Mitchell County, N.C., and had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. Miss Garland was a daughter of the late George W. and Pansy Forbes Garland.
She retired from Texas Instruments and had also worked for several years at the Southern Pottery. She was a longtime devoted member of the Unicoi Baptist Church.
She loved being with her family during family events, always enjoyed cooking for them and also enjoyed gardening and her beautiful flowers.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stewart Garland; brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Myrtle Garland; and brothers, Phil and Ken Garland; sisters, Mable and Daisy Garland; and a sister-in-law, Dora Garland.
Survivors include a brother, Robert C. Garland and wife Grace of Unicoi; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Stewart (Betty McCurry) Garland of Unicoi, and Mrs. Ken (Louise) Garland of Fall Branch.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 21, at 7 p.m., from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Salley officiating. Special music was provided by Renee' Garland and Inez Chandler, Organist.
Pallbearers were Dean Garland, Mike Garland, Adam Garland, Danny Dunford, Roger Banner and Doug Garland.
Interment was Wednesday, June 22, at 10 a.m., in the Roselawn Memory Garden.
Unicoi Funeral Home was in charge.
