Leon “Dalton” Barham, age 83, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1929, in Norfolk, Va., to Leon Barham, and Ila Horton Barham.
Mr. Barham was a caring man who supported many worthwhile charities that benefited children. He was an avid cartoonist and loved history. He retired after 42 years of service to the Newport News Shipyards as a computer analyst and a records manager.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, June (Carmie) Wilson Edwards Barham of Erwin; brother: Jerry Barham and wife Frances, of Charlottlesville, Va.; daughters: Donna L. Bennett and a grandchild living in Newport News, Va., Frances Jones, and husband John, of Erwin; grandchildren: Teresa Treadway and husband Tony, of Johnson City Steven Jones and wife Julia, of Gray; great grandchild: Wesley Higgins, of Johnson City; niece: Leslie Barham; nephews: Danny and Bruce Barham, and special friend, Nancy Bible.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, at Fishery Community Church Cemetery in Erwin. The Rev. Rob Moor officiated and granddaughter Teresa Treadway, provided special music.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made on behalf of Dalton Barham to the American Red Cross, Second Harvest Food Bank or the Salvation Army.
