Lena Jo (Thompson) Gardner

Lena Jo (Thompson) Gardner, age 82, of Erwin, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City.  A native of the Lamar community in Washington County, TN, Lena Jo is the daughter of the late Bruce and Josephine (Yeiser) Thompson.  She was a member of First Christian Church of Erwin, where she sang in the choir and was active in Women’s Ministry.  Lena Jo graduated from Lamar High School in 1955 and graduated from Milligan College in 1959.  She taught Chemistry, Physics and General Science at Unicoi County High School and later retired from Nuclear Fuel Services, where she was a Laboratory Supervisor.  She enjoyed gardening and square dancing, taught line dancing and was an active member of the GFWC Monday Club.  In 1971, Lena Jo was voted “Woman of the Year” for the Women’s Club in the State of Tennessee.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Charles Jay Thompson, and son-in-law, Mark Sullins.

Hannah Beth Moorhouse,

Marshall Sullins,

Marlie Sullins;

Brother: William Bruce Thompson, Jr.;

Numerous cousins.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Lena Jo (Thompson) Gardner as we hold a visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at First Christian Church of Erwin. A committal service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, December 16, 2019 in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Reverend Andy Frazier will officiate.  Those attending will meet at Roselawn Memory Gardens by 9:50 am for the service.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Lena Jo’s name to First Christian Church, 307 South Main Avenue, Erwin, TN 37650.
