Laura Jean Millsap, age 88, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, in Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Dunbar, Va., and a daughter of the late White Ballard and Julia Hollon Helvey.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She felt that her ministry in life was baking angel food cakes for everyone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Ivan Thompson; sons: Larry Thompson and John Thompson; granddaughter: Dawn Thompson and her second husband: Clyde Millsap.
Survivors include her granddaughters: Tricia Ferguson and Tina Killion; grandson: Todd Thompson; step daughter: Cindy Hale; step son: David Millsap; several nieces and nephews and friends: Carolyn White, Kim Hollier and Velva Jones.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev.Billy Byrd and the Rev. Garland James will officiate. The family will receive friends at 5:30 p.m. until service time in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home.
Interment will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 23, at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Helvey, David Millsap, Ken Hale, Stan Watts, Jim Culberson and David Killen.
