Laura Carmen Hopson, age 86, 127 Jake Hopson Road, Unicoi, died Saturday morning, Jan. 19, 2013, in Johnson City.
She was born in Johnson County to the late George Washington and Hattie Snyder Cole. She lived most of her life in Unicoi County except for a period during the early years of World War II, where she lived in California. While there, she met her loving husband, Jay Hopson, and they moved back to Unicoi County to raise their family.
Mrs. Hopson was a faithful and devoted member of Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jay, on Jan. 25, 2004.
Survivors include one son: Mark Hopson and wife Emma, Unicoi; one daughter: Linda H. Johnson, Erwin; one granddaughter: Lauren Hopson, Unicoi; two sisters: Mary Elizabeth Reed, Elizabethon, Pearl E. Kulinich and husband Tony, Lancaster, Pa.; special friend: Lena Martin, Johnson City, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service was held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. David Hopson and Miss Lauren Hopson spoke. Special music was provided by Janice Hardin and Inez Chandler.
Active pallbearers were family and friends.
The committal service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21, in Swingle Cemetery, Unicoi.
