Katie Riddle Lawing, age 85, of Erwin, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. She was a native of Unicoi County and a daughter of James and Maggie Lance Riddle.
Mrs. Lawing worked for Southern Potteries. She attended the Assembly of God in Erwin. She always prayed for her family and friends, as well as others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Samuel Lee Johnson, in 1945 and her second husband; Ballard Lawing, in 1990; a daughter: Anita Lawing Shehan; sisters: Margaret Walker, Ruth Stancil and Pearleen Story, all of Erwin; brothers: Clarence Riddle of Erwin and Lee H. Riddle of Lawton, Okla.; son-in-law: Franklin Phillips.
Survivors include her loving daughter: Nancy Edney and her husband Phillip, of Erwin; son-in-law: Wayne Shehan, of Greeneville; grandchildren: Angel Duncan and her husband Keith, Ricky Phillips and his wife Marilyn, of Erwin, Stephen Shehan, Atlanta, Ga., Aaron Shehan and his wife Deanna of Arcadia, Fla.; great-grandchildren: Caleb Shehan of Arcadia, Fla., Katie Diane Arnett, Erik Arnett, Ricky Joe Phillips, Brooke Ollis and husband Josh, all of Erwin; great-great-grandchild: Maci Louanna Ollis, of Erwin; sisters: Judy Metcalf and her husband Bill, of Erwin, Edna Chrisman and her late husband Harwood, Rollin, Mich.; brothers: Johnny Riddle, his wife Janice, of Chucky, Doyle Riddle and
his wife Carla, of Knoxville, Fred Riddle, of Chattanooga; sister-in-laws: Lucille Lawing, Alice Hensley, Martha Hartsell, Ramona Gouge and the late Elizabeth Sparks, all of Erwin, Bonnie Guinn of Troy, Mich., and Pearl Riddle of Lawton, Okla.; brother-in-law: Maynard Story, of Erwin; aunt: Helen Griffith, of Erwin and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was held at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 3, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. Darrell Shelton officiated. Steven Shehan provided a eulogy and music was under the direction of Tim and Jacob Riddle.
Honorary pallbearers were: Erik Arnett, Ricky Joe Phillips, Stephen Shehan, Aaron Shehan, Keith Duncan, Josh Ollis and Ricky Phillips
