Kathleen Ledford Jones, age 88, 112 Casey Jones Road, Erwin, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Friday, April 20, 2012. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Mariah Fender and William Cornelius Ledford.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Mt. O'Dell Free Will Baptist Church, Embreeville. She was a cheerful and hard working homemaker.
Mrs. Jones found enjoyment from tending her flowers, and canning from her large garden. She was the most pleasant example of a servant's heart and always among the first to help those in need. She was known for visiting the hospital or the ill at home, taking her special home-cooked meals to those who had lost loved ones and being a genuine and steadfast friend to all who knew her.
Mrs. Jones has now gone to be reunited with her inseparable companion and husband of 62 years, the late Casey H. Jones. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: Mose, Dave, Theodore, William “Bill” and Chet Ledford; three sisters: Pansy Edwards, Texie Harris Ledford, and Hulda Ingram.
Survivors include two sons: Leon Jones and wife Pat, Erwin, and Ronnie Jones and wife, Donna, Greeneville; two grandsons: Harold Jones, Jonesborough and William Jones, Erwin; two granddaughters: Cathy Griffith and husband Ed, Erwin, and Angela Jones, Greeneville; three great grandchildren: Amanda, Rebecca, and Nathan Britt, all of Greeneville; special sister-in-law: Ann Ledford-Walker, Erwin, and special niece: Evelyn Willis, Erwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mrs. Jones was held Sunday, April 22, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ted Cutshall and the Rev. Monroe Willis officiated. Special music was provided by Inez Chandler, pianist, and Allan Foster, soloist. Pallbearers were Tim Ledford, Tony Ledford, Harold Jones, William Jones, Ed Griffith, and Tony Slemons.
The committal service was held Monday, April 23, at 11 a.m., in the Ledford Cemetery, Coffee Ridge community.
