Joyce Ann Lewis

Joyce Ann Lewis, age 82, of Erwin, closed her eyes on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Johnson City Medical Center and opened them in Heaven. She passed quietly due to complications from a stroke.  A native of Erwin, Joyce is a daughter of the late Oscar Carlyle and Thelma Lee (Baxter) Clouse.  She attended Temple Hill Elementary School and Unicoi County High School.  She, however, graduated from South Lake High School in Michigan, while living with her Aunt and family there.

As a young woman, Mrs. Lewis enjoyed traveling and living in the states of California, Michigan, New York and New Jersey, where she worked in the food industry.  She married William D. “Brushy” Lewis and raised her family, children Joey Lewis and Vicki Lewis Osborne, in Erwin, TN.

Mrs. Lewis was a faithful Christian and a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church.  She was a joy to those who knew her and enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, cooking and gardening.  She was thrilled to be “Grammy” to her only granddaughter, Laurel.  She was always fun to talk with and would share stories and reminisce of times with her loving family.  She had fond memories of her life as a child with her sisters, Wilma and Ethel, and her extended family of aunts, cousins and special childhood friends, Jean Miller and Gladys Baxter.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lewis is preceded in death by her sisters, Wilma Scott and Ethel Byrd; and her niece, Celeste Scott.
