Johnny Powell “J.P.” Campbell, age 86, of Erwin passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Campbell was a son of the late William Brownlow Campbell and Amanda Jean Gouge Campbell. He was a native of Knox County and had lived most of his life in Unicoi County. Mr. Campbell proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force from January 1947 to 1950 and also served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. He had previously been employed by Hoover Ball. Mr. Campbell attended Unicoi Church of God. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Wyman, Herman, L. D. and Harlan Campbell; and one grandson, Chris Batson.
Mr. Campbell leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-six years, Janetta Roberts Campbell; three sons: Dana Campbell and wife, Teresa of Erwin, Jeffery Campbell and Kim of Margate, FL and Cliff Campbell of Unicoi; one daughter, Glenna Dale Campbell Batson and husband, Jerry of Alabama; one brother, Bill Campbell and wife, Ann of North Augusta, GA; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside service for Mr. Campbell will be held at 2:00 P. M., Saturday in the Roselawn Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Reverend Eddie Blazer will officiate. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the gravesite by 1:50 P. M. Saturday.
