John R. Marcus

John R. Marcus, age 98, Unicoi, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 16, 2018 at The Waters of Johnson City. He was a native of Big Stone Gap, VA, before moving to Unicoi County in 1940. John is a son of the late Golman and Rhoda Guinn Marcus.

He was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during WWII. John received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.

He retired from Sears Auto Center in 1982 where he worked as a mechanic. John also worked as a mechanic for Tennessee Motor Company in Johnson City for over twenty-two years.

He was a Charter Member of Limestone Cove First United Methodist Church.

John was skilled in woodworking and enjoyed making different things for his family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Braves fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his wife, Marjorie Nash Marcus on October 23, 2005; sixteen month old infant grandson, Todd Anthony Sneyd; four brothers: George, Glenn, Clyde and Gilmer Marcus; one sister, Mary Morrell.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, one daughter, Carol Ann Sneyd; one brother, Richard “Dick” Marcus and wife, Ann; two sisters: Jean Davis, Barbara Belcher and husband, Ken; one grandchild; several nieces  and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. – 1:00 P.M. on Friday, September 21, 2018 in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Ron Murray and Reverend Estel Williams will officiate at the 1:00 P.M. funeral service. Interment will follow in the Bell Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by Carter County Honor Guard.
