John Ed Richards, 86, Erwin, died Saturday, July 30, 2011, after a very long illness at the Appalachian Christian Village.
Mr. Richards was born in Bluff City and had lived in Erwin most of his life. He was a son of the late David Arthur and Rosa Simerly Richards.
Mr. Richards was a veteran of World War II. He was employed with Clinchfield Railroad as a signalman for 33 years, retiring in 1986. He was a certified electrician. He loved gardening and was a loving dad and papaw.
Mr. Richards was a charter member of Central Baptist Church in Erwin.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margie; brothers: Carl Richards, Theodore Richards, Clarence Richards and sisters: Lennie Love and Dorothy Tilson.
Survivors include his son: Wayne and wife, Ann Richards, Johnson City; daughter: Kathy and husband, Tim Arwood, Bristol; grandsons: Jeremy Richards and wife, Jennifer, Colorado, Jason Richards, Erwin; three granddaughters: Tracy Arwood, Bristol, Tenn, Stephanie Arwood Smith and husband, Scotty, Bristol, Tenn, Cheyenne Buck and husband, Tim, Johnson City; four great-grandchildren: Jacob and Morgan Richards, Jackson Richards, Brandon Buck; sisters: Lena Mullins, Bristol, Tenn., Edith Waddell, Bluff City; two great grand dogs: Buffy and Harley; several
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. The Rev. Larry Wiley and the Rev. Bill Nelson will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by the Rev. Larry Wiley.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Haun, Tim Buck, Brandon Buck, Jeremy Richards, Jason Richards and Tim Arwood.
Interment will be on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Memory Garden.
