John Chester Stamper, 78, of Florissant, Colo., died Wednesday April 27, 2011 in his cabin in the Colorado Mountains.
Mr. Stamper was born in Erwin. He served with honor as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his war service, he was a residential home builder in Colorado.
Mr. Stamper was known as Gray Wolf among his motorcycle friends in the Colorado Rockies, where he loved riding all over the Western U.S. and beyond.
He was preceded in death by his father, Garrett Stamper, and his wife, Gisela Albrecht.
Survivors include three daughters: Bettina Ladnier of Baton Rouge, La., Monica McDaniel of Charlotte, N.C., and Janet Salazar of Denver; grandchildren and great-grand children. The family also acknowledges his long time friend, Jim Nelson.
