John Bud Silvers (J.B.), age 93, of Micaville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 4th, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Flag Pond, TN, he lived in Yancey County for the past 17 years. He was a son of the late Andrew and Minnie Silvers. He was also preceded in death by two sons: Gerald Silvers and Lee Silvers; sister, Inas Silvers Tipton, son-in-law, Tommy McIntosh and grandson-in-law, J.M. Tipton.
J.B. worked for the County of Unicoi, TN for many years and was a member of Sweetwater Church of God in Flag Pond. He loved ginsenging, fishing, farming, gardening, chewing his tobacco and spending time with family.
Surviving is his loving wife of 17 years, Millie Gurley Silvers; daughter, Burl McIntosh of Flag Pond; son, Stanley Silvers and wife, Beverly, also of Flag Pond; three grandsons: Terri Silvers, Mark Silvers and Andrew Silvers; granddaughter, Dorene Tipton, all of TN; great-grandson, Samuel; great-granddaughter, Breanna; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Vernie Briggs and Velva Sparks and husband, Freeman, all of Erwin, TN. Also surviving are his stepchildren: Jimmy, Kathy, Priscilla, Loretta and Angie, along with several step-grandchildren who were dear to his heart.
Funeral Services will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 9th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Joe Bennett will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the services. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Gurley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: David Gurley, Edward Gurley, Brian Fox, David Briggs and his great-grandchildren: Samuel and Breanna.
