Jimmy Richard Elliott

Jimmy Richard Elliott, age 82, 121 Treadway Lane, Jonesborough, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the VA Medical Center Community Living Center. He was a native of Erwin, but lived most of his life in Orlando, FL before moving to Jonesborough over twenty years ago. Jimmy was a son of the late Grover and Hazel Huskins Elliott.

He retired as a MS1 Cook from the United States Navy after twenty years of service. Jimmy received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. Jimmy was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Elliott; four sisters: Lorraine Fanning, Mary Ruth Saffold, Janice Faye Street and Mae Belle Riddle; son-in-law, Ken Dawes; brother-in-law, R. C. Street.

Jimmy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his ex-wife and best friend, Jill Lee, Johnson City; two sons: Jim Elliott, Jr. (Mary Ann), Tommy Sherman Elliott (Vicki), all of Orlando; three daughters: Kim Dawes and Tommy, Johnson City, Debbie Gentile and Bob, Cape Canaveral, FL, Tracey Bates (Charlie), Jonesborough; one brother, Eugene Elliott (Sherry), Johnson City; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dewey Ward will officiate at the 8:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Committal service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday in the McInturff Cemetery (Rock Creek). Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military Honors will be rendered by Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
