JD Shook

JD Shook, age 81, of Erwin passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2020, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Unicoi County, JD is a son of the late Augustus John Shook, Sr. and Edith (Harrell) Shook. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and a member of Beach Cliff Church in Johnson City.  JD was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served for 6 years.  Later, he was employed by American Water Heater, where he was a Press Operator for 17 years.  Previously, he had also been employed as a truck driver for Superior, Siding, Inc. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.  In addition to his parents, JD is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Teresa Ann Shook and his sister, Faye Hensley.

JD Shook has left behind to cherish his memory:

Wife of 60 years: Delores Ann (Price) Shook);

Daughters: Nancy Shook,

Janet Shook;

Son: Mark Shook;

5 grandchildren;

9 great-grandchildren;

1 great-great-grandchild;

Several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and staff on the 5th floor at Johnson City Medical Center and the nurses and staff at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and celebrate the life of JD Shook in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 19, 2020, in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Jesse Price will officiate.  A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be held from 5:00 pm until service time on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 20, 2020 in Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending the committal service should meet at Valley Funeral Home by 12:30 pm on Monday, January 20, 2020, to go in procession to the cemetery.  Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Gambrell, Derek Shook,

Matthew Hardin, Dawson Gambrell, Andy Burnett and John Burnett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in JD’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
