Javon Ledford, age 70, of Wolfpen Branch Road, Erwin, died Sunday evening, Jan. 9, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Ledford was a native of Erwin. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He loved to tell stories about all the places and people he knew when he was stationed aboard the USS Forrestal. He was a retired house painter and said many times how much he loved his work and enjoyed making friends with everyone he worked for. He loved to hunt and was an avid outdoorsman.
Even after his illness, he loved watching and enjoying the wildlife outside his home. He loved to paint artwork, listen to music and was loved immensely by his family and friends. He was larger than life with a wonderful sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ophus Ledford.
Survivors include one son, John Ledford and his wife, Linda; two daughters, Melissa Harris and her husband, Mike, and Amy Raxter and her husband, Brian, all of Erwin; four grandchildren, Jonathan Miller and his wife Kerry, of Unicoi, and Kayla Ledford, Brianna and Nicholas Raxter, all of Erwin; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Cailin Miller of Unicoi; mother, Kathryn Ledford of Erwin; former wife and the mother of his children, Loretta Ledford of Erwin; and several special cousins who live in South Carolina.
No formal visitation was scheduled. Friends may call at the home of his daughter, Amy Raxter, 190 Wolfpen Branch Road, Erwin. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date in Mt. Home National Cemetery.
