James William Peek, age 99, a former resident of Erwin went home to be with Jesus on Monday, November 23, 2015. He was a patient at the Cumberland H ouse in Crossville, TN. Mr. Peek was a native of Madison County, NC and had lived most of his life in Unicoi County. He was a son of the late Ervin and Lockie Farmer Peek. Mr. Peek retired in 1978 as welder for the Dupont Company after twenty-eight years of service. He was a member of the Ninth Street Baptist Church and the church choir. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Carol Powers.
Mr. Peek leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of sixty-seven years, Helen R. Peek; a grandson, Terry May and wife, Jennifer of Crossville; a brother, Bill May and wife, Nancy of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters: Jeanette Dockery and Mafra Crisp both of Mars Hill, NC; four great grandchildren: Jackson, Jonah, EllaJane and AnsleeKate; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P. M. until the hour of service at the Ninth Street Baptist Church, Erwin on Saturday, November 28, 2015. Reverend Gary Addington will officiate at the 2:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Ray Bowman and the Ninth Street Baptist Church Choir and Joey Lewis. Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Lewis, Dennis Treadway, Brad Phillips, Mike Phillips, Ronnie Crain and Jack Money. The pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church by 1:30 P. M. on Saturday. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
