James Peake

James Peake, age 84, Erwin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Governor’s Bend Retirement and Assisted Living. He was a native of Unicoi County, but lived most of his life in Summersville, SC before moving to Jonesborough in 1990. James was a son of the late Sam C. and Vernia M. Howell Peake.

He was a United States Army and United States Air Force Veteran. James served his country honorably during the Korean War. He was awarded the NDSM, UNSM, KSM, AFOUA with one Oak Leaf Cluster, GCMDL, AFLSA with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and AFGCM.

James retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he was employed as a Pipe-fitting Inspector with twenty-four years of service. He attended Cherry Grove Baptist Church and West Hills Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Clyde Peake and Sam Peake, Jr.; one sister, Marie Shelton.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-two years, Veda Hensley Peake, Erwin; one daughter, Marina Peake and husband, David, Dallas, TX; two brothers: Charles Peake, Billy Peake and wife, Debbie, all of Erwin; one sister, Tinia Mussleman, Rochester, IN; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Stacey Peake, Zachary Peake, Matthew Peake, Travis Peake, Randall Lewis and Damon Wilson. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:45 P.M. on Tuesday.
