James Coleman Bower, age 92, Robinson Road, Mars Hill, N.C., formerly of Unicoi County, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C.
He was a son of the late William Claude and Carrie Fleming Bower.
Mr. Bower was a retired overhaul mechanic for Eastern Airlines with 31 years of service. He was a volunteer with the V.A. Hospital in Oteen, N.C., and was a member of North Asheville Baptist Chuch.
Mr. Bower was a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Mr. Bower was devoted to God, family, and country.
Survivors include one daughter: Bonnie B. Risher and husband, Charles A., Mars Hill, N.C.; one son: James D. Bower and wife, Debbie, Edmund, Okla.; one step daughter: Linda Rose Rogers and husband, Robert, Rolla, Mo.; four grandchildren: Randall Risher, Laurel Bozeman, James Windsor Bower, Kate Brown, and Matthew Rose; six great-grandchildren: Trae, Will, Julia, Braiden, Sophie, and Emma; three step great-grandchildren; two sisters: Pauline Lee and Irene Henson, both of Knoxville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the chapel of North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, N.C. The Rev. Jim Dykes and the Rev. Ken Roberts officiated. Special music was provided by Tracey Dykes and Evan Dykes.
Military honors were held following the funeral service. Active pallbearers were family members.
